Level 1
It’s a WORLD OF DISCOVERY in Level 1 at Kalinda
The Prep Unit has enjoyed a wonderful start to the year with 62 new and very excited Preps beginning school on February 1st. There were so many new things to try such as Music with Mrs Ronalds, PE with Mr McLean, Art with Mrs Shaw, Library with Mrs Sandow and Environmental Science with Mrs. Lange. The children have been learning about school life, classroom organisation and about themselves as valued members of the school community. They have received certificates at assembly, have excitedly met their buddies and have visited the other Prep classes within the Prep Unit.
Wednesdays during February have been rest days for the Prep children. During these days, each child has participated in a short, individual assessment session with their teacher. The teachers have enjoyed having this one-on-one time as it enables them to get to know their students.
During Term 1 the Integrated Studies topic will be ‘How Do I Belong?’ In this unit students explore the school, its surroundings and the roles of different people in the school. The students share their ideas and experiences about their own families and discuss roles and responsibilities in families, in their own class and within the school. A highlight is our celebration on Special Visitors Day when the students invite their Grandparent/s or a special friend to share their work, their classroom and the school.
We look forward to an exciting year where the Preps will be challenged with a balance of structured literacy and numeracy sessions and a play-based learning program on Discovery Days.
Our estimated costs for the year are:
Discovery Day Cooking $7.00
Swimming (Term 3) $90.00 (approx)
Excursion (Term 4) $30.00 (approx)
(These are on top of the school levy costs.)
