Physical Education and Sport
At Kalinda, the aim of the Physical Education Program is to equip students with the necessary skills and confidence to maintain a healthy lifestyle beyond their school days. They are encouraged to do their personal best based on goals set early in the year.
Students in Levels 1 and 2 undertake an intensive skill development program, incorporating the fundamental motor skills, including throwing and catching, two handed striking, kicking, dodging, jumping and leaping, to name a few. They utilise equipment suited to their age group and compete in modified games to encourage participation and fun throughout.
Kalinda students in Levels 3 and 4 develop their skills towards sports and the rules of the sports. With a view to encourage students to take up outside sporting interests, sports such as netball, AFL, soccer, basketball and softball are taught. We also encourage the various elements of sport, including umpiring, coaching and equipment management. Students in these levels also take part in an athletics and cross-country program. Level 4 students have the opportunity to trial for State sporting teams and participate in Interschool Sport. They also develop an understanding of the various fitness attributes and how they apply to various sports.
To complement this program, Kalinda students have the opportunity to play in basketball competitions, modified cricket tournaments and a special girl’s football competition. With a new gymnasium, complete with a full sized basketball/netball court, to be constructed in the near future, Physical Education and Sport at Kalinda plays an integral role in the development of a well-rounded person.
