Kalinda Primary School is situated on spacious grounds that boast first-class facilities for just about every major sport you can think of. Our oval is designed to host junior cricket, soccer and AFL 9s competitions. Our stadium is regularly used for competition basketball, but can also accommodate netball, indoor volleyball, table tennis and badminton. On top of this, Kalinda has two full-sized synthetic outdoor basketball/netball courts, and a synthetic outdoor volleyball court.
At Kalinda, the aim of the Physical Education program is to equip students with the necessary skills and confidence to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle beyond their school years and encourage students to strive to achieve their personal best. With a view to encourage and help connect students to take up outside sporting interests.
All year levels have a Physical Education session once a week, with a qualified Physical Education teacher. In addition, students in Grades 5 and 6 also have a sport session in which they compete in an intra and/or inter school sport program.
Students in Foundation and Grades 1 and 2 undertake an intensive skill development program, in which they practise a range of fundamental motor skills, including throwing and catching, bouncing, striking, kicking, running, jumping, leaping and skipping.
Following on from here, students in Grades 3 to 6 refine their fundamental motor skills, and learn sport specific skills and basic game strategies, as well as the rules associated with different sports. We encourage the various values relating to sport, including fair play, respect and inclusivity. Students in these year levels are also provided the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular sporting activities including externally run basketball and cricket tournaments.
Whole school Athletics and Cross Country events are run annually for all students at Kalinda. Students dress up in their house colours and earn points for their house by participating in the different activities. Students who perform exceptionally well at these events and who are 9 years of age and older earn the opportunity to represent Kalinda beyond school level; district, division, region and state.
We believe that Physical Education and Sport at Kalinda Primary School plays an integral role in the development of a well-rounded person.
