As part of our school-wide Book Week celebrations, Kalinda classes read all six picture books shortlisted by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) in August, before casting their votes for a favourite.

The overwhelming winner among our students was The Truck Cat - a touching story about a cat named Tinka and his human, Yacoub, a truck driver and immigrant to Australia. The book beautifully explores themes of identity, belonging, separation, and, ultimately, love and connection.

It turns out Kalinda students have a great eye for quality storytelling - The Truck Cat went on to win the 2025 CBCA Picture Book of the Year!
